Setting up a CNAME record for any of the domain names or subdomains you've got in the hosting account will allow you to redirect it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all of its records - A, MX and so on, and will take the records of the domain address it is being directed to. In this light, you can't set up a CNAME record to forward your domain name to a third-party company and retain a functional e-mail service with the first hosting company. It's also important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words rather than a number because it is commonly wrongly identified as the A record of the domain being forwarded. One of the primary uses of a CNAME record is to direct a domain address that you own through one company to the servers of another company in case you have created a site with the latter. That way, the website will appear under your own domain address, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party company.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside your account from the Hepsia CP that comes with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added such a record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have set up an Internet site using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to set up a CNAME record with ease. When you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to forward a domain address to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain name to another provider and use some third-party service which they provide, it's not going to take you more than 3 mouse clicks to create this sort of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you are there, all that you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video inside the CP on how to create a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
